44th Princess Sofia regatta are the first World Cup regatta in 2013 season. In the regatta started more than 70 Finn sailors, including five representatives from Poland. Compared to last year’s regatta, this year sailing conditions were very challenging, with the wind force not dropping below 12 knots and big waves. Especially on the first day during storm conditions nature has shown its power, where the damages of equipment could be seen on the shore.
This regatta was carried out in a completely new format of competition. The first three days were sailed in one fleet of 72 Finns. Then in the next races the fleet was divided into two groups, gold and silver, each group was competing separately. The final last two races were completed only by the top ten best sailors.
I finished the regatta on 42 position, the result is not satisfactory. Yet relatively little experience in world cup regattas and failures in the initial phase of the regatta have influenced the final result. I have learned a lot and good glimpses in some races prove that my intense trainings in Valencia were effective. NowI know on which aspects I should focus during the next races and trainings.
The regatta won Briton Giles Scott, second place went to Dutchman Pieter Jan Postma and third place went to Slovenian Vasilij Zbogar. Bestplace among the Polish sailor took Piotr Kula, who eventually finished tenth.
Inless than ten days I will be competing at next World Cup regatta – the French Olympic Week SOF, before that I will spend time on regeneration and proprioception training.
