FINN GOLD CUP 2013 – TALIN (EST) – WORLD CLASS FINN 2013
In the last week of August, in the Gulf of Tallinn the 2013 Finn Gold Cup regatta (Finn class World Championships) were played. Among the 86 competing athletes from four continents Poland was represented by four Finn sailors: Piotr Kula, Milosz Wojewski, Michal Jodłowski and me.
Tallinn greeted us with nice, sunny weather, moderate temperatures and weak, not exceeding 10 knots winds. Duringthe whole regatta seven races have been played at stable, but very light winds, with two days of absolutly no wind at all, where we were forced towait for the wind at shore. Sailing in such light winds and a specific waters of Tallin bay was a huge challenge for all sailors, where sometimes the course of events was not predictable.
Regatta won the annual winner of the Junior World Championships in the Finn class – Brazilian Jorge Zarif, the second place went to Edward Wright of the United Kingdom, and the third to Dutchman Pieter Jan Postma. Best of Polish sailors turned out to be Michal Jodłowski, finishing at 22nd position, followed by Piotr Kula at 31st position, Milosz Wojewski at 37th position and I finally finished at 63th place.
Our results are definitely below expectations and the level that we represent. Onceagain this results prove that we still have a long way to go, we definitely need more training to catch up with the top sailors. The regatta was an interesting experience – another lesson from which I draw conclusions and continue on training hard.
